Walker Receives Approval of Terms of Reference for the Next Phase of South Landfill from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks

[September 13, 2024] NIAGARA FALLS, ON – Walker Industries (Walker) is pleased to announce that the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) has approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the next phase of its South Landfill project. This approval marks a significant milestone, successfully completing the first step in the Environmental Assessment (EA) process.

For over forty years, Walker has been a trusted partner for the community, providing safe, affordable and reliable disposal services. As the current phase of the South Landfill nears its capacity, Walker is proposing the future development of the next phase to address the growing need for critical infrastructure to support the Niagara Region. Our commitment remains to continue to provide safe, affordable and reliable waste management services for local residents and businesses.

The approved ToR serves as the roadmap for upcoming environmental studies and public consultation. Submitted to the MECP on June 28, 2024, the ToR has been reviewed and incorporated invaluable feedback from the local community, public agencies, municipalities and Indigenous communities. We thank the community for their valuable participation.

We are now preparing to advance to the next stage of the EA process, which will include numerous opportunities for community engagement. We are dedicated to ensuring that all input is considered and that any concerns are addressed throughout this process.
